Passing cultural knowledge down to our children is one of our most critical priorities. One way we do this is by organizing summer culture camps. Ahtna Heritage Foundation and Ahtna, Incorporated have sponsored many such camps over the years. Our villages and elders often hold them as well. As information becomes available, those camps will be promoted on this website.
In 2009, under the Native Youth and Culture Fund, the First Nations Development Institute (FNDI) awarded a grant to the Ahtna Heritage Foundation to fund and film a series of seasonal and survival camps teaching traditional harvesting and survival skills to young Ahtna people. The intent of the camps is to teach a range of traditional survival skills demonstrating to our young people how Ahtna elders survived off the land and that they can too.
